Akron Children’s Hospital is converting its emergency department in the Montrose area into a pediatric urgent-care center for minor illnesses and injuries.
The hospital opted to make the change this week because patient families increasingly are seeking lower-cost options for minor medical emergencies, particularly as insurance co-pays and deductibles are increasing, said Cindy Dormo, Akron Children’s vice president for the Department of Pediatrics.
